What is a Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids.

  • Upper blepharoplasty focuses on removing excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper eyelids to correct drooping or sagging.
  • Lower blepharoplasty targets under-eye bags, puffiness, and excess skin beneath the eyes.

If you're looking for a solution for puffy eyes, under-eye bags, or sagging eyelids, blepharoplasty at The Door, W4 could be the ideal treatment for you.

Blepharoplasty

Why choose Blepharoplasty?

Common reasons clients choose this procedure include:

  • Ageing skin: Over time, skin loses elasticity, particularly around the delicate eye area.
  • Hooded eyelids: Excess skin on the upper eyelids can create a heavy, tired appearance.
  • Under-eye bags: Fat deposits beneath the eyes can lead to puffiness and shadows.
  • Aged appearance: Sagging or puffy eyelids can make you look older or fatigued.
  • Makeup difficulties: Loose skin can make applying eye makeup more challenging.
  • Vision issues: In some cases, excess upper eyelid skin may obstruct vision.
  • Discomfort: Heavy eyelids can cause irritation or a feeling of pressure.

Blepharoplasty surgery can create a more youthful, brighter eye area while relieving discomfort caused by excess skin. It is one of the most effective long-term solutions for reducing puffy eyes and sagging eyelids without ongoing maintenance.

What happens during a blepharoplasty?

For upper blepharoplasty, local anaesthesia is used to numb the area. An incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid, ensuring any scarring is well hidden. Excess skin, fat, and tissue are carefully removed to create a more lifted, refreshed appearance.

For lower blepharoplasty, the incision is typically made just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid. This allows for the removal or repositioning of fat and tightening of the skin to reduce under-eye bags and smooth the area.

Blepharoplasty FAQs

A blepharoplasty procedure takes an average of 1 hour to complete. Every individual is different so some procedures may last a little longer and others may be a little shorter. Dr. Rohit Seth will advise you throughout the process to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

During the actual procedure, Dr. Rohit Seth uses a local anaesthetic around the eyes to numb the area, so the procedure is not painful at all. Whilst there may be some discomfort during recovery, it is generally quite minimal and can be easily managed at home.

A blepharoplasty produces long-lasting results, but it doesn't stop the aging process. Instead, your skin will age from it's newly rejuvenated state!

A blepharoplasty generally takes 1-2 weeks to heal. Every individual is different, so be sure to listen to your surgeon's advice for the best possible healing journey.

We would advise taking 2 weeks off work to recover from your blepharoplasty procedure, depending on the nature of your job. You won't be able to drive for a number of days after the surgery but those who work from home may be able to return to work sooner.

Every individual is different, so speak to your surgeon about the recovery process for a more in-depth view of what recovery might look like for you.

There is minimal scarring after a Blepharoplasty and the small scar that is left is hidden in the crease of the eyelid, so won't be noticeable at all. Some patients have actually reported that their scars faded away completely over time.

Whilst a blepharoplasty doesn't directly influence the brows, many patients find that removing the excess skin of the upper eyelid automatically gives the appearance of a brow lift too.

After a blepharoplasty, you should avoid wearing contact lenses for approximately 2 weeks. This is to allow the eyes to heal as quickly as possible without the risk of infection. Speak to your surgeon if you have concerns about not being able to wear contact lenses for 2 weeks and they will be able to help provide some advice.
