If you have damaged, weak or thinning hair, the best place to start is with a Consultation with Dr Awfa Paulina at The Door W4. At the conclusion of your consultation, your treatment options will be discussed and a course of action will be mapped out for you.

With treatment, you can slow down or stop hair thinning - and maybe even grow back some hair you thought was gone forever.

What causes hair thinning or loss?

Hair loss can happen for different reasons including poor scalp health, damaging styling practices and overexposure to colour or bleach. It is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. Normally it's nothing to worry about, but if excessive it can be a sign of a medical condition.

Some types of hair loss is temporary, which can be caused by:

  • Illness
  • Stress
  • Weight loss
  • Iron deficiency
  • Post pregnancy
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Cancer treatment

It's important to see your GP if:

  • You have sudden hair loss.
  • You develop bald patches.
  • Your head itches and burns.
  • You're losing hair in clumps.
