Dry eyes can manifest as a constant feeling of grittiness, irritation, or excessive watering, often leading people to rely on eyedrops and other temporary solutions.
The condition arises from a malfunction in the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oils necessary for a stable tear film. People who are more likely to develop dry eyes include those who wear contact lenses, spend long hours in front of screens, or experience hormonal changes, usually as they age. Women, in particular, are more prone to dry eyes than men, with hormonal fluctuations—such as those that occur during menopause—playing a significant role in the development of the condition. These hormonal changes can impair the function of the meibomian glands, leading to insufficient tear production.
While eyedrops may provide temporary relief, they often fail to address the underlying causes of dry eyes. More effective treatments are now available to tackle the root causes of chronic dry eye, such as InMode’s Envision platform.
