Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a treatment to replace or treat hormones that are out of balance. Unlike synthetic hormones that are used in HRT, the body does not recognise bio-identical hormones as foreign.

Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant extracts and closely resembles the molecular structure of human hormones produced by the body. Since these hormone sources come from plants, they offer a more natural form of symptom relief than the traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Benefits of BHRT for Women

It’s a common misconception that only women going through symptoms of menopause can benefit from BHRT. However, women of all ages can suffer from imbalanced hormones. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and disrupt your life and your health.

BHRT can help women who have hormone imbalances caused by:

  • The menopause
  • The peri-menopause
  • PMS
  • Estrogen dominance
  • Low libido
  • Organ dysfunction (thyroid)
  • Organ removal (ovaries).

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy can help:

  • Increase energy and decrease fatigue
  • Relieve hot flashes
  • Eliminate night sweats
  • Improve sleep
  • Ease vaginal dryness and itching
  • Make sex less painful
  • Increase libido
  • Assist with mental focus and memory
  • Settle mood swings
  • Aid in depression
  • Lose or maintain weight

BHRT can even affect your health in positive ways after menopause, as studies have shown it helps prevent fractures caused by osteoporosis (thinning bones), lowers the likelihood of women developing heart disease, and lowers the chances of breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, and dementia.

The first step to starting Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is having a consultation with the Doctor here. They will conduct a comprehensive hormone profile that assesses your current hormone levels. With these results, they can create a personalised formula designed specifically for you. The compound may include up to four different ingredients, depending on what you need. These are:

  • Progesterone
to help prevent osteoporosis, reduce uterine fibroids, aid in the treatment of endometriosis

  • Triestrogen
a combination of three different estrogens that can manage energy levels, hot flashes, insomnia, and genitalia atrophy

  • Testosterone
    to increase libido and energy

  • DHEA
    helpful in reducing hormonally-induced stress

After years of research, it was determined that bioidentical hormones for women are most effective if absorbed without first going through the portal vein to the liver.

It is there that is transformed and cleared which will cause variable results. Consistent modes of absorption occur either through the skin, vagina, rectum, or oral cavity.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is administered on a case-by-case basis after thoroughly assessing each patient’s individual hormonal status. Based on medical history, symptoms, lab work as well as other factors, each patient’s hormonal deficiencies and imbalances are determined and a course of treatment is prescribed accordingly.

Then, as treatment progresses for approximately 8 – 12 weeks, modifications are made according to continued testing results and clinical response. After the resolution of initial symptoms, semi-annual evaluations will continue to monitor the patient’s response. Often therapy will be readjusted after periods of stress or other physical changes.

When there is no medical reason to stop.

Just because a person ages does not mean that the indications for a therapy change. Of course, there might have to be some minor changes due to changes in lifestyle, weight, and activity.

The Doctor will monitor bone scans closely to evaluate the potential risks of osteoporosis.

Prescriptions may include individual hormones or multiple hormone combinations. Hormones commonly prescribed are:
